Thermoplastic Rubber EPDM | Recycled Plastic

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer Rubber) The co-polymers and terpolymers EP(D)M are amorphous elastomers with saturated main chains, and in the case of terpolymers, controlled amounts of unsaturation external to the main chain. Its main characteristics are its high flexibility and high resistance to impacts. It is used to improve resistance to impact in other polymers such as PP.

EPDM is a terpolymer based on three monomers: ethylene, propylene, and a non-conjugated diene (ethylidene norbonene ENB). The levels of EPDM have residual unsaturation in the lateral chains, and therefore, can be remedied with sulphur and accelerators. Their heat resistance is clearly better than natural rubber, SBR and butadiene rubber. EPM represents a co-polymer of ethylene and propylene monomers. EPM is completely saturated and therefore requires vulcanisation using radiation or products that release free radicals, such as organic peroxides.

Both EPM and EPDM modules have a completely saturated hydrocarbon backbone, which has excellent heat resistance and achieves oxidation.
