Mecacontrol Holding Desarrollo, Plásticos Alser and the Lurederra technology centre have carried out various tasks to develop a new family of recycled polypropylene incorporating mineral nanoparticles (nanoclays) for use in the injection moulding of lightweight parts for the automotive sector.
This research, funded by the Government of Navarre in the 2023-2026 call for strategic R&D projects, has carried out the following tasks during the last year, from January to December 2025, to ensure the project’s progress:
During this last period of the project, the partners have carried out various tasks involving the large-scale preparation of materials to obtain PP with nanoclay. They have also carried out the process of injection moulding automotive parts with the developed PP with nanoclay and the final validation of these parts.
The large-scale extrusion of the optimised materials, as well as the injection and characterisation of the parts, were successfully completed.
In short, this research opens up a new avenue of work for obtaining recycled products that meet mechanical requirements and allow for the lightening of the parts injected from them. It will also contribute to the introduction of the circular economy in the automotive industry by promoting both the use of recycled material and the eco-design of all its components.
